My name is Kim, from Australia, I travelled with 3 friends to Petchaburi and did some amazing tours with Oh, of Petchaburi Discovery.

Petchaburi is a lovely change from many other very touristy places in Thailand, it feels more “Thai”. Don’t expect to find the usual touristy amenities in Petchaburi City, but it does have great accommodation, I recommend the White Monkey.

Oh took us to the Palm Sugar Plantation, and for me this was a highlight. It was so awesome to see how real Palm Sugar is made. I bought some from the plantation (super cheap) and use it when cooking Thai food. I will need to go back soon to buy some more!

The river trip was also really nice. I love being on the water. It was a good size boat and a very nice trip, we took some bananas with us and I was amazed at the number of monkeys who swam up to the boat to catch the bananas we threw to them.

Oh is a great guide, her command of English is very good and being that she is a local, who grew up in this area, her knowledge of the surrounds is very good. Oh also seems to actually enjoy showing you her countryside and likes to meet new people. I highly recommend Oh as a guide and have sent a few other friends to do a tour with Oh, they were all very happy too.

I am Parkash Darjee from Bhutan, land of happiness. The trip to Bang Tabon was one of my fascinating trip as it showed me a beautiful place. We had a boat trip around the sea and it gave me the feeling of joy seeing the sunset which was one of the most beautiful thing, the nature is beside all the food that we get there were mind blowing, tasty and varities of delicious sea-foods. So lastly I would like to thank you for making my day amazing one and looking forward for other plan in future .

We had a fabulous time visiting a traditional Thai fishing village with Oh. She took us for a delicious meal at a seafood restaurant right by the water, and we also bought some local produce in a small market nearby. Then we took a boat trip along the estuary out into the sea to catch the sunset and see how they fish, stopping at an old traditional charcoal kiln on the way. Oh was able to explain about the process and to help us ask questions, and the whole experience was a fascinating look at local traditions and the local lifestyle. So, as a rule I avoid guided tours; those rushed trips along highlights, during which you are to listen to worn-out jokes and information you can read in any guide book.

But Oh’s tours are of a different kind, for Oh is a different kind of tourguide. Her English is good, she has a broad field of interst, good education and her knowledge is thorough, but it is her personality and approach that really set her apart. Let me try to explain; she is truly passionate about the Petchaburi area and it’s treasures, that – since she was born and raised there – she has been exploring since she was a little girl. So her knowledge is not only of the textbook kind, in her explanations you will hear the bare facts mixed with personal memories. In the same manner she mixes her passion for the area with her genuine interest in people, and her desire to share the things she loves. At the end of a day with Oh, apart from having your head filled with great experiences and new information, you will feel you have truly met and have truly communicated with her, like after spending the day with a friend. About her tours: she wants you to have a great time, so she will want to hear your individual interests, and design the right trip to your measure.

Check the websites for suggestions. My favourite: the boat tour from fishermen’s village Bang Khung Sai during low tide. Imagine; the boatman carefully manouevring through the narrow canals between the mudbanks. Then, suddenly, he takes a sharp turn left. The boat racing towards the mud, I expect a thud and the shock of a sudden stop as the boat will surely be grounded on the bank. But no! The engine is revved up, the boat doesn’t halt but simply speeds through the mud! I feel like being in some dream, for only in dreams one expects to see a boat sailing where there is no water. Then, as on the end of the mudbank the boat reaches the water again, I look back at the mangroves, and see we are about two miles out. And here - where you would expect deep water, waves and sharks - more surrealism: we meet fishermen without boats. Their chest above the surface, their feet on the bottom, searching for shells and crabs. …. Now, one more thing about Oh and her passions: she loves good food and has acquired a lot of expertise on that. Do yourself a favour and ask her for advice on where to eat and what to order. Satisfaction guaranteed!
